The Jinnah Institute of Cardiology (JIC), Lahore is a premier cardiology center under the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department, Government of Punjab. The Institute is dedicated to providing advanced cardiac care, conducting research, and training healthcare professionals. The Department of Pathology plays a critical role in diagnostic services, research, and medical education.

Position Overview

The Senior Consultant Pathologist is a specialized medical position in the Department of Pathology at JIC. The appointment is on a lump-sum contract basis for three years, and is eligible for re-appointment based on satisfactory performance. The Senior Consultant Pathologist will provide expert diagnostic services, lead pathology initiatives, and contribute to medical education and research.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert pathological diagnosis and interpretation of clinical specimens.
• Oversee and supervise pathology laboratory operations and quality assurance.
• Lead diagnostic initiatives and protocol development in the pathology department.
• Conduct research and contribute to academic publications and conferences.
• Participate in medical education and training of junior pathologists and laboratory staff.
• Collaborate with clinical departments on diagnostic challenges and case discussions.
• Ensure compliance with international diagnostic standards and best practices.
• Report to the Director/Head of Department on pathology matters.

Prescribed Qualification & Experience

• Basic Qualification: MBBS or equivalent medical qualification recognized by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC).
• Postgraduate Qualification (Mandatory):
  • FCPS (Fellowship) in Pathology, OR
  • Ph.D in Pathology, OR
  • M.Phil in Pathology, OR
  • M.Sc (Four years) in Pathology, OR
  • Other equivalent qualification in Pathology recognized by PM&DC
• Experience: Minimum 03 years post-graduation practical experience in Pathology in a recognized healthcare institution.
• Research Publications: At least 02 research papers published in standard medical journals approved by PM&DC/HEC.
• Age Limit: 30 to 55 years of age at the time of application.

Selection Process

• Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview.
• Interview panel will include representatives from the Board of Management, medical professionals, and pathology specialists.
• Equivalence certificates from HEC/PMDC are mandatory for foreign qualifications at interview stage.
• No TA/DA (Traveling Allowance/Daily Allowance) will be provided for interview attendance.
• Verification of research publications and credentials will be conducted during the selection process.

• Appointment will be made on a three-year lump-sum contract basis.
• Eligible for re-appointment based on satisfactory performance evaluation.
• General age relaxation in upper age limit is admissible as per Government of Punjab policy.
