Contour Software is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee SQL DBA to join our team in Karachi. As a subsidiary of Constellation Software Inc., we provide a unique opportunity for early-career professionals to dive into the world of enterprise-level database management.
In this role, you will work under the mentorship of senior database administrators to support the performance, security, and availability of our SQL databases, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies like Azure SQL and SSIS.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation and configuration of SQL Server instances in lab and test environments.
- Support routine maintenance tasks, including patching, updates, and non-production backup/recovery procedures.
- Monitor logs and basic performance metrics under senior supervision to ensure system health.
- Write and test basic SQL queries and stored procedures to support data operations.
- Assist in building and maintaining simple SSIS packages for ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) practice.
- Help maintain technical documentation, such as data flow diagrams and technical notes.
- Learn to manage user access and secure data according to company standards.
- Contribute to compliance documentation by maintaining accurate records of daily tasks and optimizations.
- Shadow senior DBAs to observe and document performance tuning and troubleshooting strategies.
Requirements
- Completed a BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related equivalent degree.Basic understanding of SQL Server, databases, and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Familiarity with writing simple T-SQL queries.
- Introductory awareness of Azure SQL, SSIS, or ADF (Azure Data Factory) concepts is a major plus.
- A proactive, "self-driven learner" mindset with the ability to absorb new information quickly.
- Strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
- Excellent collaborative skills and a willingness to share knowledge within a team.
